Don’t Mess with Nanny

Nanny Mania is a simulation game where gamers take on the role of an overworked nanny. The game comes complete with cute graphics, but does the format make it feel more like work than play? Read on to find out.

Cleaning up after pets, doing the laundry and cooking meals might not seem like many people’s idea of fun. But this is exactly what the creators of Nanny Mania are trying to convince people with this game. Players are given a series of tasks to complete and as they advance through the game the amount of tasks that players have to get through just keeps growing and growing.

The game manages to combine many of the popular elements from other sim games of this type to try and hook players. Gamers play the role of a young nanny who is hired to help the Mayor of Suburbia and his family. This high powered family are far too busy to cook or clean for themselves. However, they somehow manage to find time to add offspring to their collection and as the game advances players will spend more and more time taking care of babies as well as doing their other chores.

Completing the actual chores is fairly easy and can often be done at the click of a button. the dropdown screen menu highlights the messy areas of the house and players dutifully make their way on over to clean up. It is the sheer number of tasks that need to be completed that pose the challenge in this game rather than the skill level that is required.

Players are presented with 150 different levels, which should provide fun for many hours. However, most people are likely to find that the appeal of this game runs out long before they come to the end. For some people, playing games provides escapism and this game is far too much like real work without the salary and other rewards.

Nanny Mania tries to offer all of the appeal of Sims without the variety. While the game looks great and it is hard not to be enchanted by the cute characters and locations, there is really not enough to do in the game. Younger players may find it entertaining for a while, but many gamers will probably get bored after the first hour or so.

Pros

  • Great graphics and animations
  • Cool game perspective
  • Lots of levels to complete

Cons

  • Not enough variety to the game play
  • Becomes repetitive rather quickly
